For the last 41 years I have been deeply involved in several different people-helping professions.  Being a part of another person’s growth, development and healing is a profound and sacred privilege – one that has never grown old.

Having the rich life experience of marriage and children (ages 28-42) has pushed me to grow and make necessary changes in my personal world.  Marriage and each child have brought unique joys and specific challenges into my life that have enhanced me and my skill as a people helper.

I would like to share with you a little about who I am and how I approach helping people:

#1 I believe every human being is unique, including you, which means, “One size doesn’t necessarily fit all!”  Let’s create an individualized time together – one that fits your personality, your specific challenges and your unique strengths.
#2 You have strengths!  I believe that while we all have struggles, insecurities and disappointments, a person is more than a diagnosis or set of problems.  We have strengths, talents, resources and abilities that are also significant to explore and understand.  I know you are valuable and I want to create an atmosphere where you feel that, too.
#3 My perspective is that you are the expert, and I am there to assist you on your journey toward understanding, relational growth, skill building and healing. Counseling is a partnership where as we collaborate you begin to experience your very best “you”.

How do I know if this is the right time for me to seek counseling?

Here are some possible indicators that counseling might be a good fit for you:

Religious Abuse

Trauma caused by religious institutions and religious leaders is more prevalent than most of us know or want to admit. As religious abuse and trauma is a part of my story, I now am using what I have learned, both personally and professionally, to help others find healing. There is hope for recovery and many tools for healing!  If you have been devastated by your faith community or religious framework, it might be time to schedule an appointment with someone who specializes in this issue.

Trauma

There are many things that can cause trauma in our lives.  Sometimes it’s a betrayal or ongoing pain in a relationship.  Sometimes past or present abuse (sexual, physical, verbal, religious, physiological) has caused such difficulty that it affects our present condition.  Being in a physical accident or witnessing one can cause trauma, or losing someone or something close to us.  Why not pursue healing and a renewed sense of “normal”?

Intimate Betrayal

Our culture is saturated with sexuality.  If you have been crushed by the excruciating pain of your partner’s affairs, pornography or other types of infidelity, it’s time to get some support.  Secrecy just ends up hurting.   Or, if you know you are hurting yourself and others with your sexual choices, but don’t seem to be able to stop, isn’t it time to get the help you need?

Relationship Problems

Relationships can be so complicated and painful. In marriages, with partners, friends or co-workers it can help to have an objective voice when things get messy and hurtful. Why not come in before things blow up and seemingly can’t be repaired?

"I'm Stuck!"

Do you lack confidence and self esteem?  Do you let people walk all over you? Are you searching for new direction and purpose?   Do you want better relational skills and self awareness?  Maybe now is a good time to start gaining those skills.

Depression/Anxiety

Are you struggling with sadness, becoming more hopeless and lethargic? Are you unmotivated and fatigued?  There is hope for getting your joy back!

Anxiety can cause intense pain and disruption in a person’s life.  Are you sleeping poorly and generally anxious during the day?  Do you obsess on certain things?  Are you experiencing panic attacks?  All these can be miserable!  Give me a call and we can find you some relief.

Addiction Problems

We all have pain in our lives, but sometimes we choose to heavily medicate it.  Sometimes we use alcohol, drugs, sex, food, shopping, working, gambling, etc. and end up hurting ourselves and others.  It can help to talk to someone who has the training to give you tools to help yourself.
